I've mentioned in another thread that its gotten to a point in my studies that only way to progress is by doing.
Doing in this case would be reading charts for practice.
So I decided to head on over to astro.com and read various charts posted over their.
Where I need help is some one to evaluate my results and interpretation and tell me how where I got it right and what areas I need to improve on.
Here is the first chart:

Now the important I notice at first is where the AC (ascendent), Mid Heaven (MC otherwise known as medium coeli) descendant and IC ( imum coeli or the bottom of the sky) are located and where most the planets are in these sections.
Most of the planets are located in the upper parts of the house. This is important because for the lower part would mean the person has a lot of himself unknown to himself.

What determines a reading the most is the rising sign and the planet in it.
With this person, it is moon in Aries.
Moon in Aries means this person is emotionally aggressive. With it in the 12th house, this person tends to have emotional bursts and gets drained very easy. Prefers to work alone, can be overly imaginative, generally restless but doesn't making too many changes, rather stick to tried and true. Which can cause trouble if one needs to change and explore into the unknown.
The AC also means early childhood, so it mean he lived in a nurturing home. Part Saturn is near it, so it could have been strict.
Sun Conjunct Mercury:
Has a tendency to want to shine through the ability to communicate and renown is possible through these channels, but must avoid the tendency of becoming narrow minded.
Since this is in the 11th house, this trait will show the most in his social abilities and to network, yet feels this is an area he has little control.
This chart says Venus Trines Sun. According my books, this is not possible, due to the speed and distance. Conjunction is only possible. This person like to have fun, fun to be around and due to Venus being in Sagittarius, most likely pleasure seeking, flirty but still conservative in tastes and morals. Since this is in the 9th house, he takes pleasure in cultural events, travel and education.
Moon sextiles Jupiter.
A bit self indulgent, but if he applies himself, may obtain wealth. A good education can open many doors for personal success.
Moon squared by Venus:
May reflect early challenges with his mother. Parents may object to his partner, but has a warm and loving nature that endears him to all.
Moon trine Jupiter:
Possibly intrigued by journalism, publishing and higher education. Women find him attractive.
Venus Trine Mercury:
Books mentions only sextile and conjuction is possible.
Both mention charm, artistic, imaginative and great at compromising and mediating.
Venus in 9th house:
Relationship with in laws is likely. Takes pleasure in cultural events, travel, education. Artistic and fond of study.
Mercury sextile Jupiter:
Not always of original, compensates for with an optimistic, witty and out going personality.
Venus Trine Mars:
Warmhearted, fun loving, this individual's charm drive and assure success in many areas, including money and love.
Venus Quintile Saturn:
Has an uncanny understanding on how to create wealth and secure positions of responsibility and authority. Signifies the ability of being a diplomat, handling even the most tense and difficult social situations.
Saturn in Sagitturius:
Has a serious approach to philosophy and higher education and does the best to adhere to strict moral codes.
Indicates an interest in occult. Has powerful intellectual prowess and keen intuition. Could be a good politician, teacher or spiritual leader.
Venus Semi-Sextile Uranus:
Likes to go out, tends to break from routine time to time. Loves to go out. Live music, socializing.
I'm beginning to like this guy.
Venus semi-sextile Pluto:
Indicates needs not always try to possess people or needs to learn how to establish ground rules (to avoid being used). Needs to learn objectivity in relationships and will learn this in his encounters through out life.
Unto Mars (like how an actor in a cheap holly wood sci-fi movie might say):
Mars is in the Southern part of his chart. This may represent a hidden aspects of himself he is yet to learn about it.
Mars in Leo:
Very passionate. Popular with the ladies (and loves them greatly) but can be vulnerable to what others think of him. Has yet to learn how to be more attentive to detail. Leo is also a sign that has a love for the stage and based on what I seen so far, he would do well where he is the center of attention.
Mars in 5th house:
Athletic, impulsive. Loves to compete but may be sore loser. May be an excellent disciplinarian. Social and a born promoter, can be self indulgent and times fool hardy. Has a powerful sex drive.
Can be idealistic and romantic. Loves excitement and overly dramatic.
Based on what I've read so far, he does have a problem with self-indulgence, is afraid of risk, but has strengths in the area of things socially related. I'm starting to think the arts, business, or politics might be the route for this man as a career.
Mars sextile Uranus:
Unique in approach. Has loads of enthusiasm as creative energy. As long he can live as he wishes to be, he will go far.
Mars Sextile Neptune:
Loving, Warm, instinctive. Can do well in any Neptunian field, such as acting, the arts, shipping or oil. Adept and light on feet, can excel in all types of sports. If not as a career, certainly as a hobby.
Mars Square Pluto:
When angry, frustrated, could resort to violence.
Issues oif control in sexual and material matters can command much of his attention and needs careful consideration. His sexual attitudes need proper outlets and can be served well by his creative instincts. Can command alot of influence over those near and dear to him.
The further I go into this reading, the more I think he would do well in business related to artistic endeavors, politics, or arts, or a teacher in one of these fields.
His question was about what career he should take and study for.
I'll read the rest later, but thats my conclusion so far. Do you agree? If yes, why? If no, why not? How would you grade me on accuracy?
Would you do things differently? Why or why not and how so?

The way I approach a chart is to first get a feel for it as a whole....
As an example... In this instance there is an abundance of fire and air (imagainative, passionate and volatile), some earth (though only the transpersonals are in earth so there may be a certain naivity concerning the more practical concerns of life), and the element water (moods, attachments and compassions) are challenged (the only real water is Saturn in Pisces in the 12th house which is a rather heavy and gloomy, if profound, combination). This would then assist my interpretion of the placement of the planets and thier aspects.... Anything fiery is exaggerated, anything water is diminished or suffocated. Mars in Leo is inclined to a certain confidence/pride and vanity (particularly as it is in the 5th House) and perhaps even a sort of "machismo" (regardless of whether the chart is for a male or female). It is also in (rough... I am here looking at the chart to determine the relationships between the planets rather than refering to the exact degrees... particualar in this case as Mars, ruler of the chart, is pretty much a singleton who broods on his own in one half of the chart) opposition to the Sun (conjunt Mercury) in Aquarius which suggest that this repressed passions which may undermine his/her self-image and at times interfer with communication... particularly in the broader social arena (the Sun in Aquarius and in the 11th house is already somewhat in Detriment). Aside from Sun(Aquarius) conjunct with Mercury which emphasises a need to communitate, to be heard by or transform the community, and the Rising Sign (Aries.... assertion and a certain type of need to overcome/compensate), the next most important feature for me would be the Moon (more Aries..again passion but volatility... in the 12th house indicating "hidden enemies"... or those forces within ourselves which can undermine us or, if approached carefully, make us stronger). Next I would give weight to the big aspects... the other Conjuctions (Jupiter and Pluto in Sagitarrius at the 8th.. heavenly fire and cthonic darkness at the gateway of the Mysteries... transformation through voyages and initiations and power through deep philosophical insights and soul searching... but the conjuct Neptune is too transpersonal/etherial to give us much insight yet... though given the general energies of the chart we can pretty much guarantee that Uranus is the top in that relationship), the Oppositions, and the Squares (Saturn square Jupiter emphasises the more ponderous possibilities... the fire smolders and burns longs rather than bright and fast... Venus square Moon may indicate a tug of war between the emotional needs and dispositions and the relationship expectations ... though both planets are naturally harmonious, and both in fire signs, so may be an important area of growth and selfdiscovery in the 9th House... two girlfriends chatting and sharing their secrets with one another even if there is a certain competativeness or rivalry in their relationship).
To my mind, Mars (ruler of Aries located in Leo) and fire (element of Aries) are at the essence of this character and any occupation would need to satisify this planet by providing a degree of prominance. In terms of occupations, something that provides a fair bit of communication and social interaction would probably be energising... but it probably would not be a great idea to take an job involving interpersonal confrontation or a need to empathise deeply with others (emotions are strong and potentially creative but there are not a whole lot of resouces immediately available to temper or moderate them). There may be something slightly theatrical about the persona so while Saturn is in 12th, and Jupiter and Pluto in Sagittarius in the 9th, indicated strong fascination for the hidden and mysterious processes of life, I find it somewhat doubtful that the person will truly be happy behind the scenes even if from time to time they will be overwhelmed in dealing with others. The person could probably be quite charismatic if they choose (at least fro short periods of time) and there is a need for originality and individuality so being an anonymous member of a team will probably not work for long... There is also a certain restlessness and maybe a need to move from job to job, commission to commission, enterprise to enterprise. Not to offend anyone, but marketting, advertising, possibly an occupation involving travel, advocacy or public relations might suit.
This is not meant to be an accurate reading (it is a brief eyeball of the chart)... It has been many years since I have done a chart and to tell the truth I am not a huge fan of or believer in astrology as a method of divination (though it is a valuable tool for exploration). Hopefully my example demonstrate my approach. As you are aware, the calculations of astrology are simple but the synthesis... trying to make sense of the bundle of complex and often conflicting information.. is where the real art lies. I find that taking an intutive over view is the best way for me to start... and then to slowly WORK DOWN to the details... rather than working from the bottom up.
