The ego disintegrates during meditation and I believe the rocking is essential to the disintegration. Bit like your astral body wriggling out of your physical body.
Maybe you should just stop trying to figure out and analyse meditation and the processes thereof but just let it take over and just go where it takes you.

What exactly do you mean by "spiritual authority" ? Control? Dominance? The need to have some god that you can turn to?
