Hi all, i wanted to see if someone could help me with some ideas or a reference book for my question.

The thing is that, i want to make a Talisman for protection, but i dont know in what material should i make it. Many books suggests some materials like iron, or gold, etc. But come on, thats not really practical.

So i figured out that even without the material of the planet for example that i want to ask for help, it could still work in other things like paper, or pergamin.

What do u guys think?

Thanks a lot.

PD: Sorry for my english, im not very good at writing it.

Yes, a talisman can certainly be made of paper, drawn in appropriate colors.

While you can use another image as a guide, if you are working on paper, it is especially beneficial if your design is hand-written and hand-drawn. One can also be careful to observe the correct day of the week and, if one wants to be particular, the phase and sign of the Moon, and the current dignity of the planet concerned (that is, a Jupiter talisman for wealth or employment should be made when Jupiter is in a sign it rules, or is exalted in, or at worst is neutral toward, while making more fortunate than unfortunate aspects to other planets. This gets rather involved, but is much easier with a computer program to do the calculations. However, one can get by without all this).

That is, if you don't include the traditional metal, then try to work in as many other traditional associations for the planet instead. It doesn't do to get too cluttered, though. At the least, I would suggest three planetary associations (Jupiter, for example, could be an eagle inside a square, drawn in blue ink) or at most nine. A tradition which I observe, for which I have never actually found a source other than my teacher, is that an odd number of elements is preferable to an even number, so I advise three, five, seven or nine elements. Five, as a number of Mars, is probably best for protection.

So, one could inscribe an appropriate scripture verse of five words, like את-הכרבים ואת להט החרב המתהפכת, "Cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way" (Genesis 3:24), in red ink, within a five-sided figure, around the symbol of Mars, , on a Tuesday. And that would be five elements relating to the purpose of the talisman, used together. One then consecrates the talisman, invoking the appropriate forces to enliven the symbols, and puts the talisman to work.

I could be more helpful if I knew better what you have in mind, but I hope the example above gives you an idea how you might proceed.

Just some ideas that may enhance your working.

Another little detail that can strengthen a hand drawn talisman is the use of magical inks. Making your own ink by any means enhances anything you draw with it. Basic black can be made by mixing water with lamp black. To produce lamp black hold a spoon or other smooth fire proof object above a lit candle, or clean the chimney of an oil lamp. Inks of other colors can be made from the juices of a wide variety of plants including Poke Berry (purple) and Beet or Pomegranate (red).

You might also anoint the talisman with herbal oils and/or powders relevant to protection and the planets you wish to invoke. Caliban would be more suits to suggesting which herbs are appropriate to any given planet, but some of the most common protective herbs are Rose, Rosemary, Lotus, Tormentil (Cinquefoil), and Frankincense.

May you find what you seek,

So much knowledge, im glad you answered me.

But i still have one more question about the form of the paper, should i cut a circle? or just a square or the hole paper?

How do you do it?

Thanks again for all your help, it hard to find a forum in my language about things like this.

there are many ways.....try and get into your intuition and not follow a book too much - i have made some like this:

afternoon create some writing about the energy i want, then down to a sentence, then down to letters, to a sigil.

later in meditation, stop, and engrave quickly the sigil onto the crystal or item, it does not matter if you miss, or are not accurate - then cup the talisman and load the thought form into it, giving a timescale.

can use a tiny bit of your semen or blood too.

from then on, don't let anyone else touch the talisman and talk to nobody about it,. never look or think of the sigil again.

Glad to help - it's why we're here. :)

I generally enclose my talisman designs in a circle in any case. As for shape, it depends on how I am using it. If I am putting it on my altar and burning a candle on top of it, I usually cut it out as a circle. If I am carrying it, or giving it to someone to carry, I have it square and either fold it up or roll it into a little scroll, with the writing inside.

But this is really a matter of preference. My best advice is to do what feels right for each talisman, when you are making it. :) Good luck!

There's something emotionally satisfying about a little scroll of paper wrapped up tight and bound with a ribbon or cord. One can experiment with the energy added to the working by different colors and textures of cord. A nice metallic ribbon is good for those uplifting feel good kind of spells.
