"Eighty One Gods will come unto you.
Nine gods of nine will come."
In a dream, something forgotten was revealed to me. The Eighty One. I can't say much about them, or what cultures have recognized the Eighty One in our history. But I do know that we've known them before.
Eighty One gods, an exclusive court of gods who each serve a purpose of their own. The "you" in the quote refers to the earth, not an individual. And the nine of nine refers to nine houses of nine gods each. Moreover, it was known that 30 of these gods were wind gods. Why thirty of them are wind gods, I can't say. The man in the dream told me this.
Me, the person in the dream I was, then posed a question along the lines of, "what if we've labeled some of them wrongly?" Unfortunately most of the information in the dream I've forgotten. It's important that I remember it, but I've been unable to.
However, I know that there are at least three or four other speakers of the Eighty One out there, and I'm betting on the whisper of a dream of a hope that they'll hear this. I can also say that all these gods shared a common enemy, a very mysterious character I don't know much about. Some of the gods are more helpful that others, some of them seeming to be outright unlikable.
I've only been able to recognize a few of the Eighty One Gods. There is He Who Rustles the Leaves of Trees, and She Who Blows in the Night, and She Who Soars Above the Mountain, three of the specified 30 wind gods. There is also God of Hundred Butterflies or Him of the Many Butterflies, and He Who Plays the Flute in Solitude, and Him Who is Willingly Bound in Chains with No Heart. He Who Rides Upon a Cloud, Him Who Makes Thunder as He Walks. One Who has Many Wings--I think eight. He Who Sees Very Far Things, and She Who Hears Secrets. The Apple Tree Man. The Storyteller. He Who Catches Men with His Net. Lady of Many Cats.
Some of them are male, some female, some of them apparently can become both at will, and others have no apparent sex. Many of them are represented as animals, some of them very strangely, and others are almost completely human in shape. However it is made very clear that none of them are without their own God Name, or Title or Authority, which designates them as the gods they are and gives them power, which they gained through some mysterious event called a trial or a tribulation or something in that sense. Throughout culture they have appeared and after some sort of "blighting" only some of them were remembered throughout ancient cultures.
