The Xultun find is the first place that all of the cycles have been found tied mathematically together in one place, representing a calendar that stretches more than 7,000 years into the future.

The Mayan numbering system for dates is a complex one in base-18 and base-20 numbers that, in modern-day terms, would "turn over" at the end of 2012.

But Dr Saturno points out that the new finds serve to further undermine the fallacy that this is tantamount to a prediction of the end of the world.

"The ancient Maya predicted the world would continue, that 7,000 years from now, things would be exactly like this," he said.

But if you have been paying attention, this is not surprising. :-)

If you want zombies, you better start writing to some Lwa and get your hands on some of that Haitian slave powder. Airdrop it over Ye Olde Metropolis. Watch instant zombies.

Zombies are already here.

Businessmen call them "consumers".

its a right wing christian conspiracy to make people think that the mayans were wrong...

though what has truly amazed me is that I've still yet to see a "no payments till the end of the world" sale at the local furniture stores.

Also, consider this, the Mayans did not have daylight savings time, by their calender december 2012 has already passed.

How do you figure that? I don't think DST has anything to do with the Mayan calendar.

Besides. The 2012 thing is actually a confluence of a number of things, the biggest of which is the Galactic Alignment. A couple examples our past Galactic Alignment events are the World Flood and the Ice Age. Combined with the where Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto were in the past 25 years, with Venus transiting the Sun soon, and some other interesting celestial transits ... we're catching the emanation of the ending of one Age and the beginning of another. It's simply that with people so vested in the notion of little self that it feels like the world is ending; they are inuiting the dissolution of their dearly-held way of life. We're in an Age where you don't have to physically die to feel the keen edge of mortification and transformation.

Modern startups call this "disruption". We've had many, many of these in the past 50, 25, 10, 5 years ... even in the past 6 and 3 months. Disruptions are coming closer and closer in frequency. Just as an example, Youtube has been taken for granted. We're seeing comments about how, "gee, why didn't they catch this bad behavior of Government/Big Biz/Institutions on camera phones and put it on Youtube? Oh... Youtube wasn't around before 2005." People are taking Facebook for granted. There is more coming this way.

In other words, the "2012 End of the World" has already happened, is happening, and will continue to happen for the next fifty years. Zombie apocalypse is already here, people simply don't know it. It's actually kind of funny watching people do survival prep for something that is already happening.

Oh I agree with all that. Also I miss-spoke/typed, I meant leap year, referring to the fact that without leap years we would currently be in 2013 according to some calendars, so the whole "Look at the numbers! It's 12/21/2012!" thing doesn't really apply. For instance, in the Julian calendar todays date would be April 25 or so (might be off some due to internal math =p lol).

I've never seen the numbers and have always assumed that the calculations were done correctly. Can you show the math?

If the Mesoamericans were able to predict the end of our world, I'm sure they could have predicted the end of their world too and would have avoided it. Which would mean we would be living in a very different world.

Pray and Know that the world is Good. Do penitential rites and cleansings. Make yourself pure and humble. After that, then most of your dross will be swept away by Divine Joy.

Just because you predict something, it doesn't mean you can, or should, avoid it. In fact, they did predict the end of their civilization, several ends, and they occurred.

Yeah. The "cyclical time" they are talking about is the closest a mainstream academic would dare describe it. Mark Booth (David Black)'s Secret History of the World presents a more cohesive and practical framework for the practicing occultist.

In the end, fear is the real enemy. Things come and go, whether they are cycles as small as heartbeats or as big as the galactic precession.

if you think about it it does not matter when it ends for the way the calendar was created it would have to end at sometime or they would be making the calander for ever its interesting how far the went with it.

Would you mind adding punctuation to that? Without ending your sentences, it is difficult to understand what you said.
