After a lengthy absence from the board due to both work, social, and personal responsibilties, I have come back to share with all of you that I have indeed expanded on the mythology I have been working on for almost 2 years now. I took several breaks to assess my spiritual priorities, and even explored other traditions to see if they might hold promise for some other form of spiritual expression, but it has already been chosen for me - so I can't exactly walk away from it.

I have expanded my once meager mythology into a pantheon of 29 deities, complete with well-defined correspondences and a solid world mythology as well.
For any that are interested, I have posted my cumulative workings online at a new website I created:

Interesting.

I had an Idea to do something like this in my Head for a Long time now.

Would you mind if I used some of them.

If you'd like advice on how to do create a new pantheon, I'd be more than happy to show you ;)

No offence, but this all seems a bit 'Dungeons and Dragons' to me.

What do you use your pantheon for? How much do you actually believe in them as representations of what you claim they are?

Each one of the correspondances you list has an alternative in other historic religious pantheonisms - why didnt you just use the 'tried and true'?
Im no longer a member of Occult Corpus due to the facsist moderation of this place, and the inability of certain people to actually ask me to do stuff differently rather than just punishing me for doing things to make other peoples lives better. None taken...

At first, I was frustrated and had tried experimenting with the idea, but it wasn't until a few months later that things started to come to me in dreams. Of course, there are alternatives in several different pantheons, but depending on your belief, even deities of a similar function can be very different - such is the case with these entities. The reason why I didn't use old entities in the same reason why I started this: because I do not feel at home in an pantheon of gods that I have worked with, even though I consider myself in harmony with them. Also, there is a belief system that has evolved alongside this pantheon that does not exist in other religions that I would like to explore further.

The funny thing about this, is the people that are strict polytheists find this work facinating, while the people who disregard seperateness (namely eclectic wiccans, ceremonial magicians, and especially chaos magicians) are usually the ones that draw criticism of the idea. And it seems more and more apparent the less a person cares about the validity of the individual nature of godforms.

Thanks for the answer, but I'm still curious. What do you use your pantheon for? How much do you actually believe in them as representations of what you claim they are?

Can a gods-based magic system truly bear fruit when youre 100% certain that the gods in question are your own creations?

I do believe that these things are real, and I utilize this pantheon in the same way I would utilize any other in a spiritual context. As for a magical system, I don't believe that these deities are 100% my own creation. I believe that they are mostly inspired by dreams, visions, and omens, with the rest of it being a creative process of my own mind doing it's best to piece together the often fragmented message that I receive into a coherent system. Other times, it is so lucid that almost none of my own input is needed.

Well, even working from the "tried & true" - in my case Hermetic Qabalah - I have personally found, or been given, or made up a system of seven planetary Archons or Satraps, with seals and subject spirits and all, more or less out of the blue. I think that we each of us have our personal hierarchies of spirits, our own keys to the Kingdom, that reflect and personify our unique path of attainment.

Personal systems may or may not be useful in a group situations (I can do very little with the god-forms used by my Wiccan teacher's teacher, for instance, so when operating in that paradigm I substitute the god-forms with whom I resonate more strongly). But for solitary work, a personal language of symbols is a useful thing - just expect some difficulties in translation when working with others.

Working with others would most definitely typify the difficulty in a personal system - whether inspired or not

In contemporary society, a customized personal pantheon is normally better for the practicing mage, especially with forms like rootworking, hearth-witchery, and divination. It's best to set up your pantheon, that way you can identify which gods are actually different forms of your own gods, which are not and should be ignored, and which are emanations of those gods in your pantheons (servants, if you will).
I've come to understand that there are seven mighty gods who protect the earth, I call them the seven guardians of the earth and incorporate them into a sort of centrepost, not unlike the Voodoo peristyle. I mostly refer to them in animal totem form, because it is so natural to my sentiments, but I'm working on learning more proper names. Animalistically, they are Stag, Wolf, Bear, Owl, Lemur, Dragon, and Tortoise. In the tradition of Yazidi, this heptad is recognized as the guardians of the earth, but in a very traditional way that obscures just how many different groups worship some of them. For example, most Wiccans sometime worship the Horned One and or the Earth Mother. I do find that some Wiccans mysteriously worship the strange god Abba (Yhwh, Jehovah, One God of the Desert). And in Hinduism: "At the beginning of the process of creation, Brahmā created eleven Prajapatis (used in another sense), who are believed to be the fathers of the human race... He is also said to have created the seven great sages or the Saptarishi to help him create the universe." There you have it. Also, some loas are forms of these seven gods, like Ayezan, Loko, Legba, and Erzulie. Some Slavic deities and Greek deities are also derived from them.
This is what I've been sowing together mythologically:

In the beginning, there was no sacred law, and all was an endless void of chaos. El had been lost to himself in the chaos of the endless void for a long time, along with a quiet being he named Yu. He had become restless with chaos, and now craved power, though Yu warned him power could not be harnessed without law. Unabated, El pulled out the power latent within Yu, and the first light erupted into the endless void. El was radiant, but having taken the essence, he in consequence created law, and the law broke him into three pieces. These pieces were named Pum, Lim, and Som. The law endowed Pum the power of construction, and Lim the power of dismantling. It was there sister, Som, who put them back together again. And so, the being who was once El had thus become Som of the three faces, god of creation, life, and destruction. He reached outward with his arms in the four directions, honoring the four great elements. Then, using the innate power within him, he crafted an indestructible crystal through which he would create the seven mighty guardians of the earth, and granted them obeisance for each the day on which they were created. Having done this, he vanished into the Elsewhere...

That's a rough sketch of part of my mythology.
Coincidence is but one of the many fictions clung to by men.
