To be sure, I'm rather hesitant to even write this. I feel within myself that the Ancestors ought to be approached personally, reverently, that the relationship that is developed between a person and the Ancestors is a sacred relationship. Even so, a nagging question continually resurfaces in my mind, "Who are the Ancestors?" When I ask this question of myself, I am reminded of something previously written in the main forum, "...comes from the earth, which is composed of the ancestors... ...the earth's digested remnants of it's own children.." I am reminded of the cycles of the seasons, the cycles of birth and death, how our bones and skin and muscle are turned to soil. Images of mountains, rivers, deep jungles and frogs, snakes, alligators & orchids, dewdrops and a full sky of stars all come to mind, but still I ask, "Who are the Ancestors?"
I can feel them, like some nagging sensation at the base of my skull, patiently waiting for me to recognize, for me to see, but still I do not know. I do not know if it is a question that will ever be answered, can ever be answered, but still I ask, 'Who are the Ancestors?'
